One of the primary things you look at when you go to purchase a car is whether or not there is any damaging rust on the frame or on the body. Preventing rust and corrosion through a proper application of undercoating is one way to make sure that your truck, RV, car, or SUV doesn’t start to experience this deterioration.
Salt, dirt, and road grime can all contribute to the slow destruction of your vehicle, and a proper layer of undercoating on your undercarriage will keep your vehicle safe and protected. From aerosol spray applications to brush on versions, we’re going to go over our favorite undercoating products of 2019.

This will apply a fresh new satin black layer of undercoating to your trim. It won’t harden up more than it should, allowing your trim to be as flexible as it needs to be while looking brand new.
8. Premium Paintable Undercoat and Sound Eliminator by 5 Star
The Aerosol Premium Paintable Undercoat and Sound Eliminator by 5 Star will apply a black textured coating that will dry fast. This will bond firmly to the metal without creating pockets of air that other undercoatings may experience.
The firm bond will result in a strong, durable coating that will help prevent from moisture damage, fumes, dust, dirt accumulation, weather elements, or rust and corrosion. In addition, the barrier will help to deaden sound, reducing vibration and road noise from your fenders, undercarriage, quarter panels, wheel wells, and also potential trouble spots where you’ve chosen to mend your frame before.
This is a decent rubberized undercoating that sprays on in a black color. If you’re going to paint on top of this, it’s best to apply a layer of primer on top of this undercoating, then apply your paint.
7. Zinc-It Instant Cold Galvanized Zinc Coating by CRC
Zinc-It Instant Cold Galvanize by CRC is intended for touching up galvanized coatings that have been damaged. This could also be used to coat any metal that hasn’t been coated, painted, or sealed.
Zinc-It is great for fighting rust and corrosion, and will provide a new layer of base even when scratched, dented, or abraded. Always make sure to fully prep the intended area by clearing it away of any rust, dirt, debris, paint, sealant, or other potential contaminants so that this zinc coating product can fully adhere properly.
It’s fast-drying, and should be dry to the touch in less than 20 minutes. It will take approximately 48-72 hours to fully cure the zinc product. When finished, it should look like a powdered gray color without any gloss. After it has cured, you could then apply a layer of paint on top.
6. Non-Rubberized Undercoating by 3M
The non-rubberized version of 3M’s Undercoating, this is the version that will dry on hard and solid. This is good for wheel wells, undercarriages and fenders. Can be used as a sound-deadener in door skins as well, but primary use is for undercoating to protect metal from corrosion, abrasion, and build-up.
This undercoating spray will take about 30 minutes to dry, and 24 hours to fully cure so make sure you don’t need to go anywhere for a day or so to let it fully set.
5. Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating by 3M
The Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating by 3M is ideal for spraying into small, targeted spaces like inner wheel wells, interior fenders, and other metal surfaces. The rubberized undercoating will spray on evenly and quickly exactly where you need it to go without any run-off.
This is great for cars, trucks, SUVs, and RVs alike. The rubberized coating will also help reduce vibration since it has noise-deadening properties. 3M is known for making great products, and this is no exception. The undercoating will dry quickly to a nice flat, durable finish.
4. Automotive Spray-On Rubberized Undercoating Material by Rusfre
The rubberized undercoating material from Rusfre comes in a large one gallon container. It’s intended use is for an undercoating spray gun to be used to apply it. We recommend purchasing a secondary container to pour this into for the spray gun.
It will apply an even bounded layer to prevent chipping, peeling or cracking. It will effectively cover the undercarriage of your car or truck, assisting in reducing vibrations and deadening sound. This is a tar base, so it can get quite messy. It’ll dry up, but isn’t rock hard when it does. Best to use this on only on the underside of your vehicle. This one only comes in a black color, but if that’s what you need, this is a great choice.
3. Lanolin Undercoating by Woolwax
Undercoating material from Woolwax is both environmentally friendly and safe to use since it is primarily made with lanolin from sheep’s wool. When applied, it will act as a barrier and corrosion inhibitor for the undercarriages of cars, trucks, and RVs. This proprietary blend contains other agents to help provide long term corrosion protection against calcium chloride, brine, salt, and other ice control agents that are typically very corrosive.
The lid is the appropriate size to attach directly to an undercoating gun, preventing any potential spills or messes from trying to pour it into another container. It will apply as a very viscous, thick solution similar to a heavy latex paint, making it difficult to wash off.
This will form a pliable film coating that will not dry completely. What this means is that it’s continuous in seeking out crevices and cracks to fill, so it will continue to protect even in the event something else fails. If you’re looking for an environmentally friendly solution to undercoating your vehicle, this is your best choice.
2. Truck Bed Coating Aerosol by Dupli-Color

The undercoating creates a firm barrier through electromechanical bonds to provide a nice hard finish in the color of your choice. This will spray on evenly with ease, and protect your frame from future damage.
Make sure to clean up the desired target area where you’re trying to coat with this undercoating beforehand. You’ll want to remove all the dirt, grime, grease, oil, and other materials from the frame or target area in order for proper adhesion. Prep the metal with a metal prep solvent and then apply this undercoating for a nice strong protective finish. Dries quickly and does a great job in protecting your car, truck, SUV, or RV from the elements.
